Tyler Maxson Wins with Harry Gottsacker and ST Racing in Pirelli GT4 America SprintX
Always looking to get behind the wheel of any racing vehicle whenever possible, Tyler Maxson competed at the 4.014-mile, 14-turn Road America facility in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Racing with the ST Racing squad in the Pirelli GT4 America SprintX, Maxson shared the #28 BMW M4 GT4 with Harry Gottsacker as the duo drove to victory during race two of the weekend.
“Great weekend for us and it was good to get back on track in a different type of car,” explained Maxson. “We had some bad luck in race one, and it felt that if that bad luck would follow me everywhere this season but made up for it in race two with the win. A huge thank you to Harry for allowing me to share the wheel with him and to Samantha Tan Racing and BMW for the help and support throughout the weekend.”
After qualifying in the top-five for Saturday’s race the black cloud would follow the Maxson / Gottsacker #28 entry into the first wheel-to-wheel action of the weekend. With Gottsacker behind the wheel, an overanxious driver came from way back into one of the heavy braking zones, overshooting his marks and into the back of the BMW. Soldiering on to finish in the eighth position, the duo would return Sunday morning for redemption.
Maxson took control of the wheel at the start of race two and drove more than fifty percent of the race distance before handing it over to Gottsacker. With the two youngsters driving flawlessly and not putting a wheel wrong throughout the twenty-two-lap race, Maxson and Gottsacker scored the second fastest lap of the race in the Silver class en route to the class victory and a seventh place result overall.
Maxson continued, “Race two was great and hopefully that is the result that I needed to build some momentum and carry it into the rest of the season. We have had a lot of bad luck this year, but I am confident that we turned that around this weekend. The Samantha Tan Racing program is a great outfit, and I thank them for allowing me to be part of it this weekend.”
